(Sept. 8)\u003cbr/\u003e     Summer is dwindling down... autumn is gearing up... and before you know it, winter will be here again.     \u003cbr/\u003e     So what can we expect this winter? \u003cbr/\u003e     Each year two books capture the fascination of people who want a look beyond the 5-day forecast. \u003cbr/\u003e    one- The Farmers Almanac predicts it will be cold... But nothing like it was last year.\u003cbr/\u003e     But that doesn't mean you won't need your hat and gloves in the coming months.\u003cbr/\u003e    The other- The \"old farmer's almanac\" predicts most of the country will see a colder than usual winter.\u003cbr/\u003eSOT: we're looking for a cold winter on most of the eastern half of the us. down in the southern tier we're going to see cold weather with lots of rain Midatlantic and across TN/KY we'll see cold weather with above normal snowfall. \u003cbr/\u003eJanice Stillman/editor, Old Farmer's Almanac \u003cbr/\u003e     the dueling almanacs rivalry dates back nearly 200 years.\u003cbr/\u003e     and they've maintained a fan base that sometimes goes back generations in families.\u003cbr/\u003eSOT: i think its very comforting for people to see that there's a constant in this world. there's something, that although its brand new every year, isn't changing. it is the same.\u003cbr/\u003e Judson Hale/Chairman\u003cbr/\u003e     the books are highly secretive about the method used to make their predictions.\u003cbr/\u003e     They'll only say that they use a formula that's on sunspot activity, planetary position, tidal action and other facts.\u003cbr/\u003e     Both almanacs claim to be 80 to 85 percent accurate.\u003cbr/\u003e     In general, the almanacs' weather predictions are similar with slight differences.\u003cbr/\u003e     But the forecasts are at odds with the national weather service's long-range outlook.\u003cbr/\u003e     The weather service is calling for warmer-than-normal temps
