guilty verdict.\u003cbr/\u003e(Bill Petit, Survived Attack) \u003cbr/\u003e(Marybelle and Richard Hawke, Parents of Jennifer Hawke-Petit) \u003cbr/\u003eA jury found Steven Hayes guilty in a home invasion that left a mother and her two daughters dead. \u003cbr/\u003eThe father, Bill Petit, the only one to survive the attack, now must wait to find out what sentence the man found guilty of slaughtering his family will receive.\u003cbr/\u003e(Ted Shaffrey, The Associated Press)\u003cbr/\u003e(New Haven, Connecticut)\u003cbr/\u003e\"That the jury found Hayes guilty comes as no surprise.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was caught fleeing from the crime scene and confessed to raping and killing the mother of the family, Jennifer Hawke-Petit. \u003cbr/\u003eHe tried to plead guilty earlier this year. \u003cbr/\u003eWhat this court case is about now, is the death penalty.\" \u003cbr/\u003eA jury must now decide whether to sentence Hayes to death by lethal injection, or to life in prison without the possibility of release. \u003cbr/\u003eThis crime has many people in Connecticut supporting capital punishment. \u003cbr/\u003e(Patrick Mitchell, Connecticut Resident)  \u003cbr/\u003eThree years ago summertime it seemed unimaginable that something truly evil could happen to the Petit family. \u003cbr/\u003eThey worked hard to build lives in caring professions, he is a doctor, she was a school nurse, and they doted on their two daughters. \u003cbr/\u003eIn this bank surveillance video, Jennifer Hawke-Petit tells the teller to call 9-1-1...her family is being held hostage back home and she needs money to pay them off. \u003cbr/\u003eShe believed their promise not to harm her family and went back with her captors. \u003cbr/\u003eA short time later, she was raped and murdered by Hayes. \u003cbr/\u003eThe other man who invaded the house with Hayes, Joshua Komisarjevsky, will go on trial next year. \u003cbr/\u003eHe's accused of sexually assaulting the 11 year old daughter Michaela. \u003cbr/\u003eThe invaders poured gasoline in the house, setting it ablaze, killing  Michaela and her 17-year old sister Hayley. \u003cbr/\u003eThe crime scene is now a memorial. \u003cbr/\u003e It could take the jury several weeks to decide whether Hayes should be put to death for the crime. \u003cbr/\u003eIf his sentence is death, there will likely be years of
