Beatles are Liverpool's most famous export. \u003cbr/\u003eJohn Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr formed the four man pop music group who took youth culture by storm. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom their humble beginnings in the city's nightclubs, to their record breaking tour of the United States in 1964. \u003cbr/\u003eThey created classic songs that helped define a generation. \u003cbr/\u003eNow 'Liverpool 2008' hopes to attract people to city to celebrate its links with the Beatles and Liverpool's other cultural highlights\u003cbr/\u003eAlmost 30 years later, the city in the north west of England still attracts tourists from all around the world on a pilgrimage to see where the Beatles began. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom the moment tourists arrive at 'John Lennon Airport' to the 'Cavern Club' on Matthew Street, reminders of the band known as 'the fab four' are everywhere. \u003cbr/\u003ePaul McCartney's brother Mike says he is thrilled to be involved in the 'city of culture' events.  \u003cbr/\u003eSpencer Keith is a local radio presenter and Beatles historian.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the festival really begins with the concert starring Ringo Starr, this evening (January 11). \u003cbr/\u003eKeith says that Ringo's plans to sing John Lennon's song  'Power to the People' sums up what 'Liverpool 2008' is all about. \u003cbr/\u003eThe band's legacy is evident throughout the city. \u003cbr/\u003eMany buildings associated with 'The Beatles' have been preserved and marketed as sightseeing destinations.\u003cbr/\u003eThe childhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney are open to the public. \u003cbr/\u003eAcross the city visitors can shop for a wide variety of Beatles memorabilia.\u003cbr/\u003eMike McCartney says that the two remaining Beatles have decided to take part in the festival shows the importance of the event to them and the city. \u003cbr/\u003eRingo will perform at the opening celebrations and Paul is expected headline 'The Liverpool Sound' concert at Anfield Stadium on June 1, 2008. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom 'Penny Lane' to 'Eleanor Rigby', the city's streets and people were immortalised by Beatles songs.\u003cbr/\u003eKeith says that in addition to the Beatles, today's Liverpool has a vibrant art scene and lots of other events to attract visitors. \u003cbr/\u003eOther highlights of 'Liverpool 2008' include:  \u003cbr/\u003eLiverpool-born conductor Simon Rattle will lead concerts with the Berlin and Liverpool Philharmonics, and hundreds of bands from around the world are due for Liverpool Music Week in November. \u003cbr/\u003eA new opera called ' Into the Little Hill, an opera based on the story of The Pied Piper in collaboration with the Festival d'Automne, Paris\u003cbr/\u003e'One Step Forward One Step Back', by Dreamthinkspeak, a work created for Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral based on Dante's Divine Comedy.  \u003cbr/\u003eNorthWestSide Story, a local re-working of the famous musical. \u003cbr/\u003eThe fifth Liverpool Biennial and the 2007 Turner Prize and exhibition at Tate Liverpool. \u003cbr/\u003eSome of the tourists strolling through the city's streets certainly seem happy with their visit.\u003cbr/\u003eCity officials expect nearly two million people to visit in the coming year.\u003cbr/\u003eLiverpool's time as 'European Capital of Culture' is shared with Stavanger,
