Hill walking away\u003cbr/\u003eNorth Korea's envoy to international disarmament talks said on Tuesday that his country was ready to work on eliminating atomic weapons from the Korean Peninsula.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the opening session of the talks in Beijing on Tuesday, the United States also reassured the communist nation that it had no intention of invading to end the nuclear stand-off.\u003cbr/\u003eChina's Foreign Minister gave an upbeat assessment of the start of the latest round of the Six Party talks.\u003cbr/\u003eLi Zhaoxing said that the opening day had gone smoothly adding that all parties had to work gradually towards their goal of achieving a solution to the problem of the Korean peninsula. \u003cbr/\u003eHe convened the fourth round of talks in Beijing in the morning before flying to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to take part in an annual conference of Asian and South East Asian nations.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the past, North Korea has said denuclearisation of the peninsula also includes removing alleged US nuclear weapons from South Korea. \u003cbr/\u003eBoth Washington and Seoul have denied any such weapons are present.\u003cbr/\u003eThe talks are the fourth such six-nation negotiations, which also include China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the United States. \u003cbr/\u003eThey are reconvening after a 13-month boycott by the North, which cited \"hostile\" US policies.\u003cbr/\u003eNorth Korea agreed to return to the talks following a meeting earlier this month between the North Korean envoy and the main US envoy, Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill, who assured the North that Washington recognised its sovereignty.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Tuesday, Hill repeated those pledges.\u003cbr/\u003eUnlike the previous rounds, which were scheduled for several days, no end date has been set for this week's resumed negotiations.\u003cbr/\u003eHill said on Tuesday his delegation would remain in Beijing as long as progress was being made. He has previously said he doesn't expect this round to be the last of the six-nation talks.\u003cbr/\u003eHill also said the US would address the North's security and energy concerns after the nuclear issue is resolved.\u003cbr/\u003eThe talks are the first in which Hill is representing Washington, and he is believed to have more room for negotiating than his predecessor, James\u003cbr/\u003eKelly.\u003cbr/\u003eIn a departure from previous meetings, Hill met his North Korean counterpart on Monday ahead of the official opening of the talks.\u003cbr/\u003eThe US and North Korea held another meeting later on Tuesday after the talks opened, a US Embassy spokeswoman said on customary condition of anonymity.
