quarter of a billion trees in 2007.  \u003cbr/\u003eWith the help of Pro Arbol and their 200 nurseries, the government hopes to help poor forest dwelling communities to make a living. \u003cbr/\u003eAfter years of illegal deforestation, Mexico's environmental ministry, SEMARNAT, is undertaking a massive tree-planting campaign to replace 250 million trees by the end of 2007.\u003cbr/\u003eAs part of the Pro-Arbol project, Mexico will be planting one-quarter of the UN's goal of 1 billion trees planted worldwide in 2007.   \u003cbr/\u003ePro-Arbol is using more than 200 nurseries nationwide, like the one in Coyoacan, where Forestry Commission Director Jose Cibrian and Biologist Vicente Arriaga are examining young cedar trees. \u003cbr/\u003eJose Cibrian, the director of Mexico's National Forestry Commission, says the UN wants a billion trees planted this year - and it's hoped 1 out of four trees will be from Mexico. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Pro-Arbol project is meant to help poor forest dwelling communities use managed forestry to make a living while maintaining a healthy environment.\u003cbr/\u003eBiologist, Vicente Arriaga says the most important aspect of this project is to capture carbon which would be an additional benefit to supporting the forested areas of the country where the most marginalised people live.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it will also help Mexico enter the burgeoning carbon credits market created under the Kyoto Protocol. \u003cbr/\u003eTo offset industrial pollution, developed countries that have signed the treaty, like Canada and Japan, will pay developing countries to reduce their emissions and to absorb carbon through successful forest management and Mexico hopes to participate.\u003cbr/\u003eThrough Pro-Arbol, the country will pool its carbon credits, then sell the carbon absorbing capacity to a developed nation, according to Mexico's National Forestry Commission.\u003cbr/\u003eThe project is funded with a federal grant of more than 5.5 billion pesos along with state contributions.\u003cbr/\u003eThe community of Tres Marias has participated in past versions of the Pro-Arbol project.\u003cbr/\u003eFire is a serious danger for the state of Morelos, - there have bene 70 so far this year.\u003cbr/\u003eJoel Zavala and his men protect the young trees by removing the lower branches of saplings and the brush beneath them to lower the risk of fire, which is also a large source of carbon emissions.\u003cbr/\u003eIn this area, it's common for trees to be cut illegally in the middle of the night, often by the
