Maazel conducted the US and North Korean national anthems while members of the orchestra and an audience of North Korean musicians remained respectfully standing. \u003cbr/\u003eFlags of the two countries stood on opposite sides of the stage.\u003cbr/\u003eThe evening concert will include Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 - popularly known as the \"New World Symphony,\" written while the Czech composer lived in the United States and inspired by native American themes - and George Gershwin's \"An American in Paris.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Philharmonic is the first major American cultural group to perform in the isolated communist nation and the largest-ever delegation from the US to visit its longtime foe, arriving on Monday on a chartered 747 with some 300 people.\u003cbr/\u003eThe historic concert taking place in a country that views the US as its mortal enemy and one that has featured heavily on US President George W Bush's \"Axis of Evil\" has been associated with musical diplomacy.\u003cbr/\u003eNew York Philharmonic Conductor Lorin Maazel said on Tuesday that while a thawing of bilateral relations was a welcome side effect, he and his orchestra were concerned with one thing only.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Musicians make music,\" he said. \"That's what we should be thinking about.\"\u003cbr/\u003eRi Kyong Hui, who attended the dress rehearsal, said she expected that the musical exchange between the two countries would continue.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Seeing the performance I think this could represent a further advance in the exchange of music between our two countries in the future,\" she said .\u003cbr/\u003eIt was not known whether North Korean leader Kim Jong Il would attend the Philharmonic's concert, and the ensemble said it had not directly invited airport arrival to the North Korean capital was printed on page 4 of the main Rodong Sinmun newspaper, along with brief stories on the event.\u003cbr/\u003eThe US government has supported the Philharmonic's visit, agreed upon last year when efforts to end the North's nuclear weapons programme were making unprecedented progress. \u003cbr/\u003eThe country shut down its main nuclear reactor
