September 11, when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building.\u003cbr/\u003eRumsfeld gave in to a rare show of emotion while helping dedicate the site of a new September 11 memorial at the Pentagon.\u003cbr/\u003eRumsfeld told the crowd of family members, military service members and emergency personnel from neighbouring Virginia that the memorial of 184 steel benches and reflecting pools will \"remind visitors that every one of these lives was special.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAn engraving recognizes the 184 people who died at the Pentagon that day, their families and everyone who sacrifices so \"that we may live in freedom.\" And it says, \"We will never forget.\" \u003cbr/\u003eMore than 500 people attended the ceremony just outside the spot where American Airlines Flight 77
