Various of the weaving goddess being captured away to heaven by the heaven soldiers\u003cbr/\u003eTim Yip, the Oscar-winning Art Director of 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', has taken his talents to the stage for the world premiere of 'Romance of Heaven and Earth' in Beijing.\u003cbr/\u003eThe musical mixes the modern with the traditional to tell a mythological Chinese love story. The show includes martial arts and acrobatics as well as song and dance.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tale has it that a long long time ago, the Weaver goddess Zhinu fell in love with a handsome cowherd Niuland.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir love was fiercly opposed by the Emperor of Heaven, Tiandi, and Zhinu is captured and brought back to heaven.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Queen of the West in heaven sympathises with the unfortunate couple and persuades Tiandi to allow to the lovers to reunite. But Tiandu only allows the couple to meet once a year on a transient bridge across the heavens, made of twigs brought by countless birds.\u003cbr/\u003eTim Yip was responsible for the dramatic costumes and set design, using projected images to produce spectacular visuals for the show.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough Yip has built a successful career in film, he believes the stage offers potential for richer performances. He was determined to make 'Romance of Heaven and Earth' one of the most ambitious shows ever staged in China.\u003cbr/\u003eThe show is funded by American charity the Joseph and Loretta Law Foundation.  The aim is to promote cultural exchange between East and West.
