The chic for paternal cool of an urban kind has pride of place at the Baby Show reflecting how...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eSkateboards doubling as push chairs are stealing the show in London as the trend for 'hands on' young fathers becomes more popular in Europe. \u003cbr/\u003eThe chic for paternal cool of an urban kind has pride of place at the Baby Show reflecting how the role of dads is changing.\u003cbr/\u003eHold on to your helmet, this isn't quite the buggy you've come to expect.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hippest dads may soon be hopping onto their skateboards to take baby out for a stroll, although mums here in London weren't initially quite sure what to make of it.\u003cbr/\u003eThis prototype is a combination of a long skateboard and a baby buggy which has been developed by a pushchair manufacturer Quinny.\u003cbr/\u003eThe company is aiming to make what it's called the 'longboard stroller' a limited edition product.\u003cbr/\u003eVery few dads have had the chance to grab these handlebars and it won't be filling any Christmas stockings either.\u003cbr/\u003eQuinny is planning a limited edition of one thousand strollers in 2015.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen it does reach the shops it'll be pricey ride in the park for mum, dad and baby, costing 599 Euros ($761 dollars US).\u003cbr/\u003eQuinny's marketing and communications spokesman Ashleigh Bradshaw says: \"It's really for people who have toddlers, so it's kind of giving them a bit more fun while they're being pushed around and also it gives the parents a bit more fun while they're pushing a pushchair around.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAs you might imagine this stroller isn't suitable for all babies.\u003cbr/\u003eInfants under the age of one and children over the age of three are not suitable.\u003cbr/\u003eParents Anoop and Ronak Patel are enthusiastic about the design and say they'd be happy to ride out to a park with their son Ayush.\u003cbr/\u003ePatel says: \"So it's quite innovative, it's quite a good idea. I don't think it's ideal for London streets because obviously they're quite narrow, but if you get out somewhere for example to the park, I think it'll be a nice idea.\" \u003cbr/\u003eChristopher Dury and his partner Christina Ellis are less keen.\u003cbr/\u003eEllis is just sixteen weeks pregnant with their first baby and Dury doesn't have the happiest memories of skateboarding.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says: \"It's a bit dangerous for my liking especially from past experiences when I was a teenager. I wouldn't go anywhere near it that's for sure.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Bradshaw the stroller has only been cleared for sale in Europe, not in the US, but she claims interest is growing: \"It's been quite exciting, you get people coming up, they're not really sure about it because it's so new, but you do get some that actually go that's actually brilliant, it's like why haven't you done this sooner.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe profile of dads at the Baby Show this year seems a lot higher, they're pushing buggies on the catwalk as well as on the floor of the show.\u003cbr/\u003eDean Beaumont the founder of Daddy Natal believes it reflects the growing role of men supporting pregnant partners as well as the importance of the male role in nurturing.\u003cbr/\u003eDaddy Natal provides practical classes for expectant parents and parents of newborns and Beaumont, who will soon be celebrating his fourth child says he's already training other dads to take his role.\u003cbr/\u003eBeaumont author of a handbook for dads says been asked to take the concept over the US.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says: \"Society has changed, dads now have been thrust basically into the birth room with mum and we're not preparing him to be there, which is why it can have a detrimental effect. So what we look at is how they can best support mum, how they can look at what they're doing within their (role), how they can advocate for mum on her wishes through a birth preferences and especially with pressures on midwives they're not there the full time with mum now, so his (father's) role is really important in keeping mum calm, keeping her comfortable and looking out for her wishes, but then we also cover post natal we cover calming techniques for dads, we look at things like swaddling, we look at the changes post-natally and things that they can expect.\" \u003cbr/\u003eParenthood itself is usually a joint decision, but it's just one among many facing couples in the modern world.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen it comes to babies mums and dads are being encouraged to favour a multitude of products from rocking horse to cot and pram to primer, even video cameras are seen as a must have to record your baby's birth, or your child's first steps.\u003cbr/\u003eNow women are being urged to store the blood from their umbilical cord to provide stem cells for their babies in the future.\u003cbr/\u003eRegenerative medicine is now a multi billion pound industry and stem cells are being harvested from specialist blood banks all over the world.\u003cbr/\u003ePrecious Cells is one of these and it's already partnered with one British health trust to remove process and store stem cells from the umbilical cords of women giving birth in publicly funded London hospital.\u003cbr/\u003eThe charitable arm of the company provides free storage, but retrieving a stem cell match is hugely expensive, costing tens of thousands of dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eCompany spokesman Bruce Cameron believes that if more women are encouraged to donate the overall cost will come down.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says: \"Very approximately one per cent of birthing mothers are consenting to donate their (umbilical) cord (blood) at the moment. We'd like to see that become ten per cent and greater over the next five years. What we'd ideally like to see is it becoming an opt out clause so when a mother checks in to her ante natal clinic at her hospital, if she for whatever reason doesn't want to donate her cord then basically she could opt out, as opposed to us trying to have to achieve a consent process in advance.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIt's not just the time after birth that's sparking debates here.\u003cbr/\u003eCouples here are also digesting announcements by Silicon Valley's biggest firms to offer up to $20,000 in benefits to help employees pay for infertility treatments, and even to freeze their eggs.\u003cbr/\u003eAnoop and Ronak Patel agree that it's a clever business strategy because companies like Apple and Facebook want to get the most out of their employees, but Anoop a family doctor and Ronak a pharmacist believe it's the wrong thing to do.\u003cbr/\u003eRonak Patel now pregnant with her second child says: \"I wouldn't be too keen for a company to ask I think that's a very personal choice. I'm not too sure about a company asking me if I wanted to do it, I think that's a bit intrusive.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAnoop Patel says: \"Being a doctor myself I know that complications associated with having babies after 35 and it's getting more common now. A lot of the ladies that we see are past thirty, past thirty-five with their first child complications go up.
