King holding his Grammy awards \u003cbr/\u003eThe countdown's underway to this year's Grammy Awards. \u003cbr/\u003eOn February 8th, 2009, hundreds of musicians will be waiting to hear if they've won one of the prestigious awards - akin to the film world's Oscars. \u003cbr/\u003eAhead of event in LA, visitors can catch a glimpse of previous winners and ceremonies at the recently opened Grammy Museum.\u003cbr/\u003eWith 30,000 square feet (9,144 square metres) displaying various instruments, outfits worn by music legends, educational programmes, music videos and much, much more, the Grammy museum is enough to get anyone tapping their feet. \u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition explores and celebrates all parts of the music industry from the creative process; the art and technology of the recording process; and the history of the Grammy Awards. \u003cbr/\u003eOccupying four floors, the exhibition pays tribute to 125 years of recorded music history dating back to the 1870s.\u003cbr/\u003eMost musical genres are covered, including: rock, hip-hop, R\u0026amp;B, classical, folk, jazz, pop, Latin and country. \u003cbr/\u003eChief curator, Ken Viste, says that despite the global economic downturn music will go on. \u003cbr/\u003eHe hopes the emphasis on interactivity in the museum will give visitors a wide and varied experience of the music industry. \u003cbr/\u003eNear the entrance, the visitor is welcomed by a video montage display of previous Grammy performances.\u003cbr/\u003eThere are areas in the museum dedicated to different music genres, with footage and interviews from various stars. \u003cbr/\u003eBut it's the music artefacts that really stand out in the museum. \u003cbr/\u003eMichael Jackson's 'Thriller' suit, Louis Armstrong's trumpet, Yo Yo Ma's cello, and guitars belonging to Jimmy Hendrix, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley, are just some of the items on display. \u003cbr/\u003eThere is also a Grammy Hall of Fame detailing the history of the award with databases on winners and nominees over the last 50 years. \u003cbr/\u003ePlus there are lyrics, letters, a listening wall and touch-technology tables, which let you find the origins and artists of 160 sub-genres of music. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Museum works closely with schools and teachers for educational purposes.\u003cbr/\u003eTeacher Trudi Forristal from  Culver City, California, called the exhibition \"incredible\".  Several of her students were also equally impressed with their visit. \u003cbr/\u003eJason Bentley, who is music director at KCRW radio station, said the museum's mission was a natural extension of that of the Recording Academy, aiming to preserve music and educate people. \u003cbr/\u003eBentley, who is also a morning show host, says the interactive feel to the museum makes it very welcoming. \u003cbr/\u003eWith the opportunity to make your own music on site, who knows how many future stars may find inspiration from the music legends adorning the walls of the museum. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Grammy Museum opened December 2008 and contains 160 musical genres and photos and footage from 50 years of awards ceremonies. It cost $34 (m)illion USD.
