Plaintiff crying\u003cbr/\u003eSome of the 87 allleged victims of clergy abuse in Orange County California expressed relief and hope on Monday as details of a record $100 million dollar settlement were released.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Los Angeles on Monday, Judge Owen Lee Kwong released attorneys and plaintiffs from a gag order regarding the settlement reached last month. \u003cbr/\u003eEarlier, a participant in the settlement negotiations told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the sum would exceed the record $85 million paid to 552 plaintiffs in Boston in 2003.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Diocese of Orange agreement also represents the first group settlement of nearly 850 clergy molestation lawsuits pending against the 10 dioceses and two archdioceses in California. \u003cbr/\u003eThe lead attorney for the victims said in a statement that the settlement included the production of documents related to clergy abuse but added the documents would not be released until a judge had reviewed them.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter a brief hearing, plaintiffs, their attorneys, and officials of the Diocese of Orange County south of Los Angeles spoke to reporters about the case.\u003cbr/\u003ePlaintiffs in the case fought back tears as they described the end of a long ordeal and the effort to bring the allegations to light. \u003cbr/\u003eIn a statement Bishop Tod Brown apologised and asked for forgiveness, as some of the plaintiffs and their families looked on.\u003cbr/\u003eThe settlement will not bankrupt the diocese or require the closure of any of its 56 parishes, church officials said. \u003cbr/\u003eSettlement talks have been under way for two years but accelerated dramatically in early December after months of stalemate. \u003cbr/\u003eIn June, talks reportedly broke down after plaintiffs rejected a settlement offer that included a $40 million offer from the bishop. \u003cbr/\u003eThe settlement could serve as a blueprint for the resolution of nearly 500 claims pending against the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the nation''s largest diocese, and mark another major step toward soothing the clergy abuse crisis that exploded in Boston in 2002.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Diocese of Orange serves more than 1 million Catholics in Orange County. The 87 lawsuits included in the agreement were filed under a 2002 state law that suspended for one year the statute of limitations in molestation cases. \u003cbr/\u003eTogether, the suits allege sexual misconduct by 30 priests, 11 lay personnel and two nuns. \u003cbr/\u003eAbout 25 of the cases involve alleged abuses that took place before the Diocese of Orange split from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1976. \u003cbr/\u003eThose plaintiffs also have claims pending against the Los Angeles archdiocese. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Diocese of Orange lawsuits include 11 claims involving Eleuterio Ramos, who admitted before his death to sexually abusing at least 25 boys during 10 years as a parish priest, and nine claims against Siegfried Widera, a priest convicted of molesting a boy in
