Various of emos at the concert in Glorieta de los Insurgentes square\u003cbr/\u003eEmos are a type of teenage tribe that is gaining popularity across the world. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Emo,\" is short for emotional - music with punk roots but more personal lyrics, sometimes painfully so. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd it's catching on.  \u003cbr/\u003eSome serious fans even have a \"look\" - short, greasy hair, dyed black with a heavy fringe, glasses with thick black frames, second hand store clothes and chunky black shoes, plus, of course, makeup - for anyone. \u003cbr/\u003eJessica Aguirre is seventeen years old and identifies herself as an 'emo'. \u003cbr/\u003eEach day she backcombs her thick black hair and applies heavy black eyeliner and lipstick. \u003cbr/\u003eJessica's look is very 'emo',  and in her hometown of Mexico city the trend is catching on. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says that although she follows the 'emo' style and has experienced 'loneliness and sadness', unlike some 'emos' she does not self harm, by cutting herself. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the Mexican capital 'emos' gather around the square 'La Glorieta de los Insurgentes' \u003cbr/\u003eThe teens are generally aged between 13 and 19 years old, dressed in black, tight t-shirts, tube pants and long fringes. \u003cbr/\u003eHector Castillo Berthier, an expert in youth groups, from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) says that the 'emo' phenomenon is very recent, but can now be considered an 'urban tribe' .  \u003cbr/\u003eNot that the term 'emo' is necessarily new. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's been around since the mid-1980s when bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace emerged from the Washington punk scene, with more introspective lyrics. \u003cbr/\u003eTerms such as \"pop-punk\" or \"emotional hardcore,\" or \"emo-core\" followed. \u003cbr/\u003eJessica's friend, Paola Cuevas (aged 17) shares her love of 'emo'. \u003cbr/\u003eHer mother doesn't seem to mind and helps her to fix her hair. \u003cbr/\u003ePaolo says the most important part of being an 'emo' for her is the look. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says \"we wear slim fit pants, tennis shoes like vans or converse. We do not wear black all the time. We also wear other colours. We use hair with a lot of crepe (gel/ backcombing and extensions) and bangs (fringe) .\" \u003cbr/\u003ePaola's boyfriend Angel Fernandez (aged 16) is the third member of this 'emo' clique (group). \u003cbr/\u003eHe converses with other 'emos' around the world on community internet sites like 'myspace'. \u003cbr/\u003eAngel says that 'emos' express themselves honestly whether they are are happy or sad. \u003cbr/\u003eThe three friends, Jessica, Paola and Angel, walk down the Mexico city streets towards the Glorieta de los Insurgents, to hang out with other members of the urban tribe. \u003cbr/\u003eJavier Vila is a professor of Psychology at UNAM and expert in teenagers. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says that emo teenagers, influenced by media and its trends such as reality TV, are looking for attention. He says that all teenagers need a sense of identity and to belong to a group. \u003cbr/\u003eBest friends, Diana del Valle, also known as Dodo and Diana Arias, known as Esponja (sponge), share a sense of fashion as well as a first name. \u003cbr/\u003eThey are on a shopping spree in the Zona Rosa, a trendy district popular with emos. \u003cbr/\u003eDiana del Valle (Dodo/ aged 16) explains that her heavy bangs (fringe) symbolise a lack of interest, and they are a barrier to separate them from the world. \u003cbr/\u003eDiana Arias (Esponja/ aged 16 years old) shows scars on her arms where she cut herself. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says she used to self harm out of anger, when she argued with her parents.  \u003cbr/\u003eVictor Morales, Director of Complaints and Orientation from Human Rights Commission of Mexico City, has studied emos and how they relate to other social groups. \u003cbr/\u003eHe says that many emos are picked on by other groups of youths, often because they lack a territory, many urban gangs here are connected to a certain district.   \u003cbr/\u003eIn the UK, Goth student Sophie Lancaster (aged 20) was kicked to death because of the way she looked as she walked in a park near her home with boyfriend, Robert Maltby, also a Goth.  \u003cbr/\u003eHer father is calling for attacks on Goths to be defined as hate crimes.  \u003cbr/\u003eGoths have a similar look and outlook to emos, and are a popular urban tribe in the United Kingdom. \u003cbr/\u003eRyan Herbert, 16, received a 16-year minimum jail term at Preston Crown Court last month after admitting murdering Sophie. \u003cbr/\u003eBrendan Harris, 15, of Bacup, must serve at least 18 years in prison after he was convicted of murder following a
