In Argentina there's a pressure to have a good body and shape and this leads to the high rates we have in our country, which is one of the highest after the United States.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Dr. Mabel Bello, Director of ALUBA\u003cbr/\u003eStrict standards of beauty are common in Argentina, where there's a big emphasis on being pretty and slim.\u003cbr/\u003eGymnasiums are full most of the day, and newspapers and magazines are flooded with pictures of pouting, thin models.\u003cbr/\u003eDr. Bello says there's an obvious fascination with style and slimness.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish)\u003cbr/\u003eWe ask schoolgirls what they want to be when they grow up and they say they want to be thin, as if it were a profession, or a conjugated verb. It took me a lot to recognise that I was sick because I was ashamed. It was like a bombing, I started being pressured by society as a whole, my friends and family. At school I realised that I was a good student but I liked physical education and I thought that by losing weight things were going to be better.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: ALUBA patient\u003cbr/\u003eAt ALUBA's rundown clinic in Buenos Aires, patients are weighed with their backs away from the scale to avoid the obsession with weight.\u003cbr/\u003eOne-thousand patients sit in group therapy waiting for the lunch break, where eating is carefully controlled by supervisors.\u003cbr/\u003ePatients are not allowed to smoke or drink alcohol or even chew gum, lest they turn from their obsession with slimming to another addiction.\u003cbr/\u003eSo far the programme has been successful, and ALUBA hopes it can help these young kids recover from their obsession to be slim at all costs.\u003cbr/\u003eBuenos Aires, Argentina shot recently\u003cbr/\u003e1.
