Cutaways of news conference\u003cbr/\u003eThailand on Wednesday confiscated the passports of two foreign journalists accused of being a threat to national security, as the prime minister warned the United States not to meddle in the dispute.\u003cbr/\u003eThe passports of Shawn Crispin, an American, and Rodney Tasker, a Briton, were taken away after they were summoned to the Immigration Department where they were also fingerprinted and photographed.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth were ordered expelled, but have been permitted to stay in Thailand for 30 days pending an appeal.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir lawyer, David Lyman, said they can get their passports back if they want to leave the country.\u003cbr/\u003eCrispin is the bureau chief of the Asian Wall Street Journal and the Far Eastern Economic Review magazine and Tasker is the correspondent of the two publications, which are owned by the US-based Dow Jones and Co.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two got into trouble over a January 10 article in the Far Eastern Economic Review alleging tensions between Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the constitutional monarch who is held in high esteem among Thais.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Thai media and people almost never make controversial statements about the king.\u003cbr/\u003eCrispin told reporters that he and Tasker were both longtime residents of Thailand who \"loved and respected the king, no less than Thai people.
