Exterior front of court\u003cbr/\u003eAn author who is suing the publishers of the \"The Da Vinci Code\" admitted on Tuesday in a British court that he had exaggerated his case that the best-selling novel had copied his own work.\u003cbr/\u003eMichael Baigent and Richard Leigh, authors of the 1982 nonfiction book \"The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail,\" are suing Random House, publisher of Dan Brown's \"The Da Vinci Code.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThey claim that parts of their work formed the basis of Brown's 2003 novel, which has sold more than 40 million copies and has been made into a film starring Tom Hanks.\u003cbr/\u003eThe suit resumed at London's High Court after a weeklong break to give the judge time to read both books and related materials.\u003cbr/\u003eBaigent was first on the stand to face cross-examination by James Baldwin, a lawyer representing Random House.\u003cbr/\u003eBaldwin said the author should not have relied on book reviews to back up claims that Brown had taken 15 central plot points from his own work .\u003cbr/\u003eBaigent made the claims in a written witness statement presented to the court at the beginning of the trial.\u003cbr/\u003eBaldwin said the claims were false, suggesting many of the reviews did not touch on the central themes he claimed were copied from his work.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter a pause, Baigent agreed.\u003cbr/\u003eLawyers for Random House have said ideas about the life and legacy of Jesus Christ, which two writers claim were stolen, are so general that they are not protected by copyright. \u003cbr/\u003eMany key themes of their book are not in \"The Da Vinci Code.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBaigent and Leigh's lawyers say they were not attempting to claim a monopoly on ideas or historical debate, but to prove Brown had \"relied heavily\" on the earlier work, published in Britain in 1982 and the following year in the United States.\u003cbr/\u003eIf the writers succeed in securing an injunction to bar the use of their material, they could hold up the scheduled May 19 release of \"The Da Vinci Code\" film.\u003cbr/\u003eBrown is expected to testify later this week.\u003cbr/\u003eClients are reminded:
