Woman clapping and hooting\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eAmericans returned a mixed verdict after watching President Bill Clinton's televised confession of an affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.\u003cbr/\u003ePeople in New York told APTV they felt that their leader's statement was too little, too late, after seven months of denials and added that Clinton had lost their trust.  \u003cbr/\u003eBut patrons at a restaurant in Beverly Hills, hometown of Monica Lewinsky, were more forgiving and said it was time to let Clinton get on with his life.  \u003cbr/\u003eA C-B-S News instant poll showed early reaction solidly in Clinton's favour, with 59 percent of those questioned saying they were satisfied with the statement and whilst 63 percent felt the matter should now be dropped. \u003cbr/\u003eThere was only one event on the social calendar for people right across the U-S on Monday night.\u003cbr/\u003eBill Clinton's televised confession of a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky was the climax to seven months of unprecedented political scandal.\u003cbr/\u003eEmbarrassed but engrossed by this extraordinary piece of political theatre, Americans watched their president reveal his most personal secrets.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen the show was over, the U-S public returned a very mixed verdict on Clinton's attempt to avoid impeachment proceedings by Congress.\u003cbr/\u003eThose questioned by APTV in New York were unimpressed.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's just a national embarrassment.
