More of water \u003cbr/\u003eRain fell for a fifth day on Tuesday in the Northeastern United States, where thousands of people have been forced from neighbourhoods submerged in water.\u003cbr/\u003eBy afternoon, the driving rains started to ease and New England began to assess the full scope of the damage caused by the worst flooding since the 1930s.\u003cbr/\u003eThe week of storms drove at least 2,500 people from their homes, flooded businesses, closed schools and washed out hundreds of roads in the states of Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire.\u003cbr/\u003eMassachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said damage would exceed \"tens of millions\" of US dollars in his state alone. And more rain was in the forecast for the weekend.\u003cbr/\u003eAt least one resident of Lowell, Massachusetts said she'd never seen water levels so high before. And she'd lived in the area her entire life.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Middleton, Massachusetts, the roads leading out to Mystic Pines horse farm looked more like rivers.\u003cbr/\u003eInside the farm, 16 horses were stranded, surrounded by waters that were at times waist deep. \u003cbr/\u003eFearing for their safety, the farm's owners had to wade through the waters with the horses in order to get them on drier land.\u003cbr/\u003eStill, there was some relief on Tuesday that the worst appeared to be over.\u003cbr/\u003eFor most affected by the floods, the daunting task of cleaning up was underway, as rivers remained above flood stage.\u003cbr/\u003eIn New Hampshire, bridge and highway inspectors began fanning out to check for damage, as the state began trying to put an amount on the devastation. \u003cbr/\u003eThe governor's office said most of the rivers appeared to be receding from flood levels, but officials continued to monitor the dams.\u003cbr/\u003eThe small town of Milton in New Hampshire was hit particularly hard by the floods.  \u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities evacuated about 200 people over the last two days.\u003cbr/\u003eMilton's fire chief decided the town would absorb high water from several ponds instead of opening floodgates which could have caused a disaster in more populated areas downstream. \u003cbr/\u003eThe widespread flooding prompted a rush across the state on sump pumps, wet-dry vacuums and other clean-up equipment, forcing dealers to order emergency shipments.\u003cbr/\u003eMany stores started waiting lists.  \u003cbr/\u003eOne store in Manchester, New Hampshire had 100 people on a waiting list for pumps.\u003cbr/\u003eThe flooding has businesses, which help homeowners cope with or prevent water damage, struggling to keep up with demand.\u003cbr/\u003eOfficials in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire are turning to the federal government for help in fixing roads and getting people back into their washed-out homes and
