Close up reporters\u003cbr/\u003eA German man who claims the CIA tortured him at a prison in Afghanistan said on Wednesday that he believes an explanation of what happened to him by the U.S. government would help prevent others from suffering a similar fate.\u003cbr/\u003eKhaled el-Masri, a Lebanese-born German citizen, spoke to reporters in Washington. \u003cbr/\u003eA federal appeals court in Richmond, Virginia, heard arguments on Tuesday by his attorneys that a lawsuit he filed against the former head of the CIA should be reinstated. \u003cbr/\u003eHe arrived on Sunday from Germany and planned to brief members of Congress on his experience before departing at the end of the week.\u003cbr/\u003e\"What really matters to me is that I want to know why this was done to me and I want an explanation and an apology. I simply want to have my old way of living back and I want to feel secure again,  he said, regarding his lawsuit.\u003cbr/\u003eIn response  to a reporters question, commenting on the importance of his own case el-Masri said:  \"I think that we all will potentially benefit from what happens in my case including those people who are still in prison somewhere in the world without due process of law.\"   \u003cbr/\u003eEl-Masri's accusations against the CIA have put a spotlight on the intelligence agency's secret rendition programme to capture terror suspects for interrogation in foreign countries, which has been heavily criticised by human rights groups.\u003cbr/\u003eThe lawsuit filed against former CIA director George Tenet and others was dismissed in May when a judge ruled that a trial could harm national security by revealing details about CIA activities.\u003cbr/\u003eEl-Masri alleges he was kidnapped while attempting to enter Macedonia for a vacation on December 31, 2003. \u003cbr/\u003eHe claims he was flown to a CIA-run prison known as the \"salt pit\" in Kabul, Afghanistan, where he was beaten and sodomised with an object during five months in captivity.\u003cbr/\u003eThe CIA has refused throughout to comment on the allegations.\u003cbr/\u003eEl-Masri's allegations also are the subject of a German parliamentary investigation that is trying to clarify when German government officials became aware of el-Masri's case and whether German security services participated in interrogations in Afghanistan.\u003cbr/\u003eEl-Masri was previously denied entry into the United States when he arrived to publicise the filing of his lawsuit last year, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which has supported his case. \u003cbr/\u003eIn recent weeks, he was issued a visa.\u003cbr/\u003eAn attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, Steven Watt, said el-Masri was one of only two alleged victims of extraordinary rendition willing to make his case public.\u003cbr/\u003eWatt said both men are entirely innocent victims of the rendition programme.   \u003cbr/\u003eThe US appeals court usually takes several weeks to issue its
