SOUNDBITE (English) Mitt Romney, Iowa Republican Party Straw Poll Winner:\u003cbr/\u003e\"When it comes to strengthening our military I want to add at least 100-thousand additional troops and provide the equipment they need in the battlefield to be safe and give them the care they deserve when they come home.\"\u003cbr/\u003eFormer Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won an easy and expected victory in an informal poll for Republican presidential candidates on Saturday, claiming nearly twice as many votes as his nearest rival.\u003cbr/\u003eRomney had been expected to win the Iowa Republican Party Straw Poll on Saturday because he spent millions of dollars and months of effort on an event that was skipped by two of his major rivals.\u003cbr/\u003eRomney polled 4,416 votes to outpace former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who had 2,587 votes. \u003cbr/\u003eKansas Senator Sam Brownback was third with 2,192 votes.\u003cbr/\u003eAnnouncement of the results were delayed for 90 minutes because a hand count was required on one of the 18 machines.\u003cbr/\u003eThe biggest loser of the evening likely was former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, who finished in 6th place with 1,039 votes. \u003cbr/\u003eHe had said repeatedly that if he did not finish in the top two his campaign was likely to end. \u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, the missing big names got only a handful of votes.\u003cbr/\u003eFormer Senator Fred Thompson got 203 votes.
