distribute its out-of-print French books.\u003cbr/\u003eGoogle Books Director Dan Clancy said the proposed deal with Hachette Livre, the world's second-largest book publisher, is \"a first of its kind\" - and could serve as a template for other deals with publishers around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eThe plans, which would seek to tap some of the estimated one (m) million out-of-print books in French, come as the US internet powerhouse has run into legal battles in its six-year effort to digitise all the world's books.\u003cbr/\u003eSome consumer groups, corporate rivals and the US Department of Justice are among those who fear that Google could get too much power in the potentially gigantic digital book market.\u003cbr/\u003eClancy insisted the deal announced on Wednesday \"is a way for old, out-of-print books to come back to life ... and make them accessible in a digital world.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe deal has added resonance in France, a country of avid readers, where electronic books have not yet caught on and where the state strictly regulates book prices.\u003cbr/\u003eUnder the deal, Google would share revenue generated by sales of the online books through its
