We should establish a legal and orderly path for foreign workers to enter our country to work on a temporary basis. Bush said he hoped to reduce the use of gasoline in the United States by 20 per cent in the next ten years.\u003cbr/\u003e\"For too long our Nation has been dependent on foreign oil. And this dependence leaves us more vulnerable to hostile regimes, and to terrorists - who could cause huge disruptions of oil shipments and raise the price of oil and do great harm to our economy. It is in our vital interest to diversify America's energy supply - and the way forward is through technology,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eBush said his proposals on energy would cut American imports by the equivalent of 75 percent of the oil coming from the Middle East. \u003cbr/\u003eThe cut would be achieved primarily through a sharp escalation in the amount of ethanol and other alternative fuels that the government would mandate to be blended into the fuel supply. \u003cbr/\u003eThe rest would come from raising fuel economy standards for passenger cars, a plan that Bush has proposed in the past but failed to win from Congress.\u003cbr/\u003eIn his address Bush was positive about the US economy, saying it is in recovery. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We are now in the 41st month of uninterrupted job growth - a recovery that has created 7.2 million new jobs so far.
