Tight shot of banner\u003cbr/\u003eA crowd of Darfur activists rallied outside the United Nations in support of the International Criminal Court prosecutor's indictment of the Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir on genocide charges.\u003cbr/\u003eAbout 40 protesters stood together and chanted, holding banners. Others offered a call to action.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is time,\" said Osman Jami, a former resident and victim of Darfur. \"It is time for us as a people, as a nation, as a human being, to respond to those that committed genocide in Sudan, Darfur against our families.\"\u003cbr/\u003eICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo indicted al-Bashir on charges of waging a campaign of genocide and rape in Darfur. \u003cbr/\u003eThe court's judges are deciding whether to issue an arrest warrant.\u003cbr/\u003eThe indictment was the first time prosecutors at the permanent war crimes tribunal have issued People's Association of New York, and the New York City Coalition from Darfur.\u003cbr/\u003eFighting broke out in Darfur in 2003 when ethnic African rebels took up arms against the Arab-dominated central government, accusing it of discrimination. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government is accused of backing Arab militia fighters, called the janjaweed, who responded with a punishing campaign in which entire villages were wiped out.\u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations estimates 300-thousand people have died, directly from attacks or indirectly through starvation, and 2.5 (m)  million people have fled their homes.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Monday, the African Union's Peace and Security Council said it will ask the United Nations Security Council to suspend action for a year on the al-Bashir
