carrying recycled uranium to Germany, according to emergency services personnel at the scene.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier on Wednesday rail workers and police said anti-nuclear protesters had also damaged railway tracks to prevent the departure of the train.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice and railway staff inspected a twisted length of track just outside Volagnes in northern France, from where the so-called 'castor' train was due to depart.\u003cbr/\u003eNajim Chiabri, a spokesman for SNCF (National Corporation of French Railways) said protesters had \"used a special tool\" to elevate the rail and create a bump in the track.\u003cbr/\u003e\"So for now no train will be able to go through,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eChiabri said his team were working on the problem and he predicted that, depending on materials available, the train should be able to pass along the damaged section of track within a few hours. \u003cbr/\u003eThere has also been a power failure, according to local media, and damage to trackside communication equipment was evident. \u003cbr/\u003eAreva, the company operating the train, said they were determined to see the train leave, in spite of the hindrances.\u003cbr/\u003eThe train had been scheduled to depart at 2:36 pm local time (1336 GMT) but was delayed due to the damaged railway tracks, finally leaving around 4pm (1500 GMT).\u003cbr/\u003eAreva spokesman Julien Duperray said that Areva respected the protesters' anti-nuclear opinions, but added: \"What we do not respect and what we do condemn is the fact that some people express their opinion by, let's say,
