Close of yellow flowers. \u003cbr/\u003ePampered living has taken on a distinctly eco-twist at a spa in British Columbia. \u003cbr/\u003eA Scandinavian-inspired - affordable - environmentally friendly spa is helping to attract countless tourists to the town. \u003cbr/\u003eLush grasses and trees nestle alongside the hot springs of this Scandinavian-style spa. \u003cbr/\u003eThis eco-spa is surrounded by some of Canada's finest scenery in British Columbia. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the unforgettable scenery is just part of the reason why thousands of visitors are discovering the deluxe Scandinave Spa. \u003cbr/\u003eMany are lured by the extraordinary outdoor hot and cold pools spread over 20,000 feet (1,858 square metres) of extraordinarily crafted terrain. \u003cbr/\u003eSince opening its doors - and pools - for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler, the spa has made quite a splash among tourists from around the world and local residents alike. \u003cbr/\u003eThe spa uses approximately 60 gallons (227 litres) of water every day to fill its four outdoor pools. But its mission is to be sustainable, so conserving water is a priority, they say. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's not really based on how much we're using, it's how much we're saving,\" says General Manager Doug DeYagher. \"So what we do is measure the water on a daily basis to make sure we're not losing so much, and when we lose a certain amount, we want to know where that's coming from. In fact, guests are encouraged to be silent in order to support even greater relaxation. \u003cbr/\u003eMany guests spend several hours in this spa paradise. In order to maximise the circulatory and detoxifying elements of the hydrotherapy experience, the spa suggests moving between hot and cold environments.  \u003cbr/\u003eHot pools hover at an average temperature of 40 degrees celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). After a few minutes, a plunge in a cold pool or slipping under a Nordic waterfall takes rejuvenation to a whole new level.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe cold baths are roughly 16 degrees celsius (61 degrees Fahrenheit), the ideal temperature for the body to close off pores and retain heat within in order to strengthen the immune system, according to the spa. \u003cbr/\u003eA giant Eucalyptus steam room is large enough for 25 guests to sit comfortably inside at the same time. \u003cbr/\u003eAfter another refreshing dip in a cold pool, you won't want to miss the Finnish sauna. It's a gorgeous and inviting wood structure, and once inside, you'll feel the heat at 79 degrees celsius (175 degrees Fahrenheit). \u003cbr/\u003eIn order to filter the pool water, the spa uses a sustainable sand filtration system combined with chlorine and salt. \u003cbr/\u003eThe rooftops are deliberately teeming with grass, plants and flowers. From virtually anywhere on the site, guests can gaze out to nearby Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain. \u003cbr/\u003eFor co-owner and founder Paul Brisson, the sauna is the centrepiece of the spa. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It all started with actually the sauna, which is the basis of this whole project, and that's why the sauna always takes a central role at our sites,\" says Brisson. \"It's always a log cabin with a wood-burning stove. And these traditions started in Scandinavian countries, probably 2,000 years ago. So we picked up on that and said how do we develop it to make it a nice, feasible activity for all the guests.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMany of the 1,000-odd people who visit the spa every week take relaxation a step further and indulge in a first-class massage. \u003cbr/\u003eSixty percent of guests are men, many of whom are attracted by the natural outdoor setting. The spa doesn't offer manicures, pedicures or facials, unlike many other luxury treatment centres. \u003cbr/\u003eScandinave Whistler is relatively affordable. Guests can spend the entire day for $58. Massages cost just over $100 an hour to $220 for an hour and a half.\u003cbr/\u003eVisitors can choose from Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, or Thai-yoga massage. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I like to combine deep tissue with the relaxation because often the client doesn't know what he or she may need,\" says massage therapist Edward Aguirre. \"As I'm doing the massage, some areas of the body may need the deeper pressure to achieve the relaxation.
