Black and White/ slow-shutter - men standing behind woman as she takes money out from machine \u003cbr/\u003eCash machines - the holes in the wall outside banks - are a modern convenience for our busy urban lives, from Hong Kong to London. \u003cbr/\u003eBut cash-points are also a tempting - and lucrative - opportunity for criminal gangs. \u003cbr/\u003eThe thieves are using the latest technological gadgetry to copy people's cards and gain access to their accounts - causing huge inconvenience and expense. \u003cbr/\u003eNow the industry is hitting back.  They're employing advanced microprocessing technology for credit and debit cards that they say the gangs can't copy.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe new cards are being slowly rolled out to countries globally. \u003cbr/\u003eThis is a reconstruction - two men approaching a cash-machine - wanting to read your PIN number and steal your card. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the fact that they are looking pretty conspicuous, nobody seems to notice. \u003cbr/\u003eImagine how much easier it would be for them to steal your money if they didn't even need to be here - if they could carry out this crime remotely. \u003cbr/\u003eWell, that's now the situation facing the banks, the police and all of us around the world.   \u003cbr/\u003eThese odd-looking objects are actually the latest gadgetry recovered by British police from gangs who target cash machines. \u003cbr/\u003eCity of London Detective Inspector Roger Cook explains...\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's a very simple process, they need a couple of items of equipment: First the throat reader which attaches to that slot there, so as you put your card through, that will read your card details. They then need to get your PIN details, so they'll have this camera bar - which has got this pin-hole in it, a pin-hole camera - that attaches above the keypad reader.  That then transmits the message, or an image of you putting in your keypad details and pin number.  So the image from the pin-hole camera bar gets transmitted by microwave to this, which is a microwave receiver.  That then itself transmits to this, which is a viewer and digital recorder, so they can record the information there.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Detective Inspector Roger Cook, Economic Crime Department, City of London Police \u003cbr/\u003eIt seems incredibly bold of criminals to take over a bank's cash machine in this way. \u003cbr/\u003eFirst the so-called 'throat reader' goes over the card slot and then the hand-made bar containing the mini-camera. \u003cbr/\u003eBut this is what they do. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd the money they make is amazing. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"Each time they clone one of these cards, its worth approximately 12 to 15 hundred pounds per card. If when you use your PIN number at the cash-point machine, just put your hand over the PIN.  That will stop anybody from looking over your shoulder and if there is a camera device on the machine, it will stop the camera from seeing your PIN number. having all your banking details encoded within the microchip - each one is unique, so experts say that this will be much harder to break than the old magnetic strip. \u003cbr/\u003eChip and PIN has
