Medium shot of woman at NASA control desk\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eNASA's space craft  Discovery's beamed down faint, fuzzy pictures of the Hale-Bop comet on Saturday from an ultraviolet telescope.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's the first time the 500-thousand dollar telescope has flown in space.\u003cbr/\u003eIf everything works, the telescope will provide the first complete, head-to-tail ultraviolet images of the comet.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd the space mission hopes to shed more light on the earth's diminishing ozone layer.\u003cbr/\u003eThe receding comet is so close to the sun as seen from Earth that the astronauts had to use the space shuttle's 50-foot robot arm to shield the small telescope from all the glare.\u003cbr/\u003eThey hung the robot arm overboard near the side hatch window - the only window without ultraviolet protection - and then set up the small telescope inside the cabin.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking during a video link-up, astronaut Stephen Robinson said the robot arm shaded the telescope from the sun, but a tremendous amount of light was being reflected off Earth.\u003cbr/\u003eRobinson explained to NASA control details of his mission and the numerous experiments that are planned. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e''This is an extremely packed mission, I think, more so than most with all the scientific experiments we have on board. We've had a very aggressive flight day one in which we have a satellite called Crystal Spas, this is essentially a telescope that we deployed on flight day one that takes a certain amount of maneuvering and preparation to go ahead and deploy. We use a robotic arm to hook up to it to release it and then we fire some jets to manoeuvre the orbiter away from it. At anytime on earth we can look up at these gases and see what the ozone layer is or where the holes tend to be in the ozone layer, but we do not really know why with utmost certainty why it moves around or the dynamics as such. The Spa satellite is covering most of the earth.  It's looking from 7 degrees north to 7 degrees south approximately to try to look at these dynamics on the nine days it's up there flying so we can better predict how the gas dynamics affect the earth
