ambassador to post-Saddam Hussein Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident Bush nominated Negroponte, now the US ambassador to the United Nations, just a week ago. \u003cbr/\u003eThough such nominations can take months to process, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Dick Lugar of Indiana, began pushing immediately for a hearing.\u003cbr/\u003eIn 2001, Negroponte's appointment to the UN was plagued by questions over his role in assisting the Nicaragua Contras in their war with the socialist Sandinista government in the 1980s, which Congress had forbidden.\u003cbr/\u003eThe subject came up again on Tuesday.\u003cbr/\u003eConnecticut Senator Chris Dodd, a Democrat, mentioned the differences he had with Negroponte when the diplomat was ambassador to Honduras in the
