Tomorrow (Sunday) the country will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the end of the war.A solemn ceremony takes place at a...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eNatural Sound \u003cbr/\u003eVietnam has today (Saturday) been remembering the soldiers who died in the war against America. \u003cbr/\u003eTomorrow (Sunday) the country will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the end of the war.\u003cbr/\u003eA solemn ceremony takes place at a national cemetery on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Mayor and the Communist Party chief of what used to be called Saigon laid a wreath and paid their respects to thousands of the dead, including more than two-thousand unknown soldiers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Communists paid dearly for their victory in what the Vietnamese call \"The American War\".  \u003cbr/\u003eMore than 50-thousand Americans were killed, but the Vietnamese death toll topped three (m) million. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Communist forces lost 1.1 (m) million soldiers - three-hundred thousand of them are still listed as missing.\u003cbr/\u003eAlmost two (m) million civilians also died. \u003cbr/\u003eThe official ceremony brought honour from the nation, individuals and groups.  Some came to pay their respects to fathers, others their brothers and sons. \u003cbr/\u003eThis area was captured by the communists on April 29 1975, as the Communist armies closed in on Saigon. \"The American War\" had only one day left to run. \u003cbr/\u003eA few miles down the road, there's another national cemetery - a cemetery for country which no longer exists. Almost three-hundred thousand South Vietnamese soldiers were killed during the war. \u003cbr/\u003eBut today their monument is stripped, their gravestones cracked and tumbled down. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Communist government ignores it. But a few families still tend some of the graves. \u003cbr/\u003eIn a simple Buddhist ceremony, sons and daughters of Hua Van Be made offerings of food and beer.\u003cbr/\u003ePeace came to their father, an army accountant, three years before the end of the war when he was killed by Communist artillery fire.\u003cbr/\u003e1.
