Medium shot Oriental Newspaper headline: \"More than 80 Dead\" , \"Raul Castro, brother of Dr. Fidel Castro, captured in San Luis\"\u003cbr/\u003eCuba prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Revolution.\u003cbr/\u003eOn July 26th, 1953 Fidel Castro and his group of rebels attempted a\u003cbr/\u003edaring raid of the Moncada Barracks in Santiago.\u003cbr/\u003eMoncada at the time was Cuba's second largest fort.\u003cbr/\u003eCastro´s efforts failed miserably.\u003cbr/\u003eThe element of surprise was never there and he and his men were forced\u003cbr/\u003eto retreat and hide throughout the city.\u003cbr/\u003eBatista´s troops made a house to house search and found most of the\u003cbr/\u003erebels.\u003cbr/\u003eThey were summarily shot.\u003cbr/\u003eFidel Castro and his brother Raul were spared and sentenced to long\u003cbr/\u003eprison terms.\u003cbr/\u003eThey were released after two years and sent into exile.\u003cbr/\u003eFour years later, in 1959, Fidel and his revolution succeeded in\u003cbr/\u003etoppling Pres. Fulgencio Batista and his hard-fisted dictatorship.\u003cbr/\u003eThis coming Saturday, all of Cuba will join in celebrating the 50th\u003cbr/\u003eanniversary of the attempt to raid the Moncada.\u003cbr/\u003eSurviving rebels of that raid, known as Moncadistas, have been invited\u003cbr/\u003eto Santiago to visit the site of their battle and to be guests of honor\u003cbr/\u003efor the festivities.\u003cbr/\u003eThere are 15 known Moncadistas still living on the island.\u003cbr/\u003e14 of them have been invited to Santiago, but not all will go. Some are\u003cbr/\u003ein frail health due to their advanced age.\u003cbr/\u003eBut there is one that is not in ill health and will not be attending\u003cbr/\u003ebecause he has not been invited.\u003cbr/\u003eGustavo Arces Bernes is the \"Dissident Moncadista\".\u003cbr/\u003eEven though he rode in the same car as Fidel into the barracks and was\u003cbr/\u003ewounded in battle beside Fidel, he and Castro no longer see eye to eye.\u003cbr/\u003eMany years ago, Arces Bernes spoke out of the betrayal committed by\u003cbr/\u003eCastro when he decided to make the revolution a communist one.\u003cbr/\u003eThis public objection cost Arces Bernes several years of his freedom.\u003cbr/\u003eHe has served two prison terms under Castro's regime totaling over nine\u003cbr/\u003eyears.\u003cbr/\u003eArces Bernes has met with many visiting dignitaries, including former\u003cbr/\u003eU.S. President Jimmy
