said earlier that Arafat had created a special committee consisting of Qureia, former Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas, and Salim Zaanoun, head of the Palestinian National Council, to run the PLO and the Palestinian Authority while he is ill.\u003cbr/\u003ePalestinian cabinet minister Saeb Erekat also dismissed earlier rumours that Arafat had collapsed.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said a team of doctors would be the West Bank town of Ramallah, one man said the Palestinian people hoped Arafat would get better and return to work.\u003cbr/\u003ePalestinians on the streets of Gaza, meanwhile, thought Arafat's passing would mean that the Palestinian people had been \"lost\".\u003cbr/\u003eMany Israelis in Jerusalem said they hoped that if Arafat died, the chances for peace in the Middle East would be improved. \u003cbr/\u003eBut some Israelis feared that if Arafat were to die, the militant group Hamas would take over the leadership of the Palestinians. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd settler leader, Josh Hasten, said Arafat's death would be a \"good thing\" and that the Palestinian leader \"deserves to die\". \u003cbr/\u003eAlso on Thursday, Jordanian doctors hurriedly left for the West Bank to
