I sincerely congratulate you,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eThe tunnel is 13.6 kilometres (8.5 miles) long, with 1.4 kilometres (4,593 feet) running under the Bosporus, the straight that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and divides Istanbul between Asia and Europe.\u003cbr/\u003eTurkish officials say that at around 55 metres (yards) deep, it will be the deepest submerged railway tunnel of its type in the world.\u003cbr/\u003eOfficials hope that with a 1.5 million passengers a day, it will ease some of Istanbul's chronic traffic, particularly over the two bridges that currently connect the two sides of the city.\u003cbr/\u003eIstanbul resident Yasar Ozturk was among those to first use the tunnel and saw its construction as a positive sign for Turkey.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This is an indication that Turkey has reached the level of other developed countries of the world,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eOttoman Sultan Abdulmejid is said to have first proposed the idea of a tunnel under the Bosporus about a century and a half ago. \u003cbr/\u003eLater in the day, Erdogan held a  joint press conference with Abe finalising a nuclear agreement between the two countries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe leaders signed an official agreement for Japan to help build a nuclear plant in Sinop on the south coast of the Black Sea to help Turkey develop its nuclear power industry.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 5,000-megawatt capacity plant is expected to cost 22 billion US dollars and be partially operational by 2023 in a deal originally signed in May.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two countries also agreed to cooperate on global matters concerning Syria and Iran. \u003cbr/\u003e1.
