Their fate lies with German authorities who are reviewing a plan to return Bosnian refugees on July...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eEng/Ger/Serb/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eFor some 350-thousand Bosnian refugees living in Germany life once again is hanging in the balance of uncertainty. \u003cbr/\u003eTheir fate lies with German authorities who are reviewing a plan to return Bosnian refugees on July 1st.\u003cbr/\u003eThe decision, by German Interior Minister Manfred Kanther, has come under fire by the U-N-H-C-R and human rights groups who say it's too soon to send the refugees back.\u003cbr/\u003eRefugee homes like this one in Opladen could be soon be emptied of Bosnians.\u003cbr/\u003eThey are scheduled to begin returning to Bosnia July 1st, but Germany authorities are reviewing the plan's timing.\u003cbr/\u003eRecent clashes between Serbs and Muslims who have attempted to visit their homes in Bosnia support U-N-H-C-R and human rights groups' fears that the return might be too soon.\u003cbr/\u003eThe groups are demanding the German government postpone the deportations. \u003cbr/\u003ePressure on the state interior ministers has deterred a final decision and referred the plan back to the federal government. \u003cbr/\u003eThe unwillingness of the Interior Ministry to work with the U-N-H-C-R is causing a rift between the two and raising new fears among the Bosnians.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003eThere is a lot of confusion, concern. In some cases, even panic among the Bosnians. And we see a lot of cases where people who had begun to come to terms with the traumas they had experienced before are now\u003cbr/\u003ebeing re-traumatised by the prospect of involuntary return.\u003cbr/\u003ePsychologists and counselors tell us that in particular among those\u003cbr/\u003epeople who had been in detention camps in Bosnia or women who had\u003cbr/\u003ebeen victims of rape there is a phenomenon of re-traumatisation of\u003cbr/\u003ethese people because of the uncertainty of when they have to leave\u003cbr/\u003eand under what conditions they have to leave. \u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Judith Kumin, UNHCR Representative in Germany\u003cbr/\u003eFor many refugees, who have suffered the horrors of war, the German plan comes as a slap in the face. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat)\u003cbr/\u003eIt isn't right what the German government is doing. Because we have no way of returning back to our homes. In our own village near Prijedor we cannot return. It's a village in the hands of the Bosnian government ruling with terror. There we would be refugees as well. It would be much worse there than in Germany. At least here I\u003cbr/\u003eam safe. I want to return but not under forced repatriation. I am against it. It's not correct what the German government is doing. \u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION: Ibrahim Petrovac, Bosnian Refugee\u003cbr/\u003ePetrovac has been living in Germany with his three children for the past three years.\u003cbr/\u003eFor Adem Fikic, a 56-year-old Bosnian, life isn't what it was back home before the war. \u003cbr/\u003eBut he says his family is safe and his children can go back to school. \u003cbr/\u003eOnce a taxi driver, Adem now is the homemaker. \u003cbr/\u003eHis family of four live in a 20-square-metre apartment and pay their own way with the money earned by his wife, a nurse's aide.\u003cbr/\u003eFikic has returned five times to visit Prijedor but each time has made it only as far as the demarcation line. Using binoculars he can see the burned remains of what once was his home. \u003cbr/\u003eHe spent months in Keraterm and Omarska detention camps. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite all this he says he still wants to return to Bosnia but not yet.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat) \u003cbr/\u003eIt's a mistake of the German government to force hundreds of thousands of people back to places where it is impossible to live. I saw what the conditions are like during my visits there. It would be like sending people into the desert. No proper living conditions.
