(March 28)\u003cbr/\u003e [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]  \u003cbr/\u003eChina is marking its newest holiday -- a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of putting down the Tibetan uprising and sending the region's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, into exile.\u003cbr/\u003eA crowd of thousands attended a ceremony in Tibet for what's being called \"Serfs Liberation Day.\" The Chinese government is likening the end of the Dalai Lama's rule to Abraham Lincoln's freeing of the slaves. Communist Party leaders are using the occasion to denounce the Dalai Lama. One promises a \"long-lasting battle\" against the followers of the Dalai Lama, who  is exiled in India.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile Chinese rule has brought higher living standards to the region, some Tibetans say they have lost religious and other freedoms under communism. \u003cbr/\u003eThe idea of celebrating the 50th anniversary came after government forces cracked down on violent protests against Chinese rule in the region a year ago. \u003cbr/\u003e1.
