So Emma Watson, Matthew Broderick, Dustin Hoffman, and friends hit the red carpet at Hollywood's Arclight Theater for the premiere of the new CGI film \"The Tale of Despereaux\" Sunday (7 DEC 2008) afternoon. \u003cbr/\u003eBased on the storybook novel by Kate DiCarmillo, the animated adventure chronicles the journey of a misfit mouse named Despereaux (Broderick), who is banished from his community for being a non-conformist. Refusing to live a life filled with fear, the chivalrous floppy-eared rodent sets out to rescue young Princess Pea (Watson) from her misery and depression. \u003cbr/\u003eAlong the way, Despereaux teams up with rat-pal Roscuro (Hoffman), and the two risk their lives, braving the highest castle turrets and the deepest darkest sewers with determination and faith. \u003cbr/\u003eWatson said she was thrilled to be in her first animation for several reasons. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's about an unlikely hero in a modern fairytale, and it's funny and it's heartwarming, and it's real and unique and beautifully animated, \" said Watson. \"It's been an amazing cast, and I am genuinely incredibly proud of it.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDirectors Sam Fell and Robert Stevenhagen wanted to give the actors the opportunity to hear one another while recording, rather than have them voice their parts separately in sound booths. Watson said this technique added more substance to the film. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I think it really helped me to work with Matthew together, and I think it really brought a lot more to the scene,\" she said. \u003cbr/\u003eEven though Broderick and Hoffman shared a number of scenes they did not have a chance to record in the same room together.
