Various of family seen through house window \u003cbr/\u003eA lesbian couple in their forties, living in a small town near Reims in France, are determined to get married, although gay marriage is still illegal in France.\u003cbr/\u003eArt teacher Sophie Hasslauer and paediatrician Corinne Cestino have been living together for 15 years in the town of Val-de-Vesle.\u003cbr/\u003eThey want to get married and have brought their case to the country's Constitutional Council. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Court is set to announce its decision on whether or not to repeal the ban on Friday. \u003cbr/\u003eUnlike neighbours Spain, Netherlands and Belgium, and despite a large and well integrated gay community, France still opposes same-sex marriage.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It is not so much about getting married, but about having the right to get married. So, that is what we are asking for, just to be able like anyone else to choose to get married or not,\" says Cestino.\u003cbr/\u003eBetween them, Cestino and Hasslauer have four children. \u003cbr/\u003eTheir oldest child, Millie, is 16, and was born of Hasslauer's previous union.\u003cbr/\u003eSince then, the couple have had three sons together by way of in vitro fertilisation with anonymous donors, done in Belgium. \u003cbr/\u003eHasslauer's twin sons are 10, and Cestino's son is six. \u003cbr/\u003eBut even though the couple raise the children together, legally their sons only have one parent. \u003cbr/\u003eTherefore, should anything happen to either Hasslauer or Cestino, some of the children would become orphans from a legal point of view.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough the couple signed a civil union called PACS (Pacte Civil de Solidarite) in 2000, they feel marriage will better protect their family.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We pay our taxes. We have the same duties as other people, but we do not have the same rights,\" Hasslauer says.\u003cbr/\u003eBut, she says, their wish to get married is above all about love, and not about imitating heterosexuals.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think there are quite a few people in our society who do not realise what we are going through, and that we suffer from this lack of rights. So, at least, we will have made it public, it is already a good thing. And it is a step toward making things change,\" Cestino says, about their stance.\u003cbr/\u003eIn June last year, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that European nations do not have to allow same-sex marriage, although the court acknowledged growing agreement that their relationships should be recognised in law.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe European Union's 27 member states range from socially liberal countries like Sweden and the Netherlands to religious, conservative nations such as Poland.  \u003cbr/\u003eSix EU states Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, Norway and Spain have legalised gay marriage. \u003cbr/\u003eAbout a dozen others, including Britain, Germany, France and since January Austria, have legal partnerships, which carry much the same status as
