Various of court building\u003cbr/\u003ePakistan's Supreme Court on Friday has temporarily suspended an earlier lower court decision ordering the return of a 12-year-old Scottish girl to Britain. \u003cbr/\u003eThe chief Supreme Court justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, issued the order following an appeal by the father of Molly Campbell, also known as Misbah Iram Ahmed Rana, who arrived in the eastern city of Lahore in August without permission from her Scottish mother. \u003cbr/\u003eSince then, the girl's father and mother have been fighting a legal battle for her custody. \u003cbr/\u003eThe latest ruling by the Supreme Court comes just days after a High Court judge in Lahore ordered that the girl be handed over to British authorities so she could be returned to her Scottish mother - Louise Campbell.\u003cbr/\u003eThe High Court judge had decided that the custody case for Molly, a Scottish resident, should be heard under the jurisdiction of Scotland's courts.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 12-year-old had travelled to Pakistan with her father, Sajad Ahmed Rana, and sister earlier this year, claiming she was unhappy with life on Lewis in the Western Isles of Scotland.\u003cbr/\u003eHer mother says she was taken illegally by her former husband.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice in Britain say Louise Campbell is the child's legal guardian after she won custody of Molly last year.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Sajad Ahmed Rana asked the appeals court in Lahore to overturn the ruling. He withdrew that appeal on Thursday to approach the Supreme Court.\u003cbr/\u003eIn a brief order, Chaudhry said he would again hear the case in the second week of January, and asked authorities that the girl must not be taken outside the country until a final verdict by him.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking to journalists outside the Supreme Court, Molly's father said that he was \"very relieved and felt very happy,\" that the judge had ordered Molly to stay until the second of January, when the case will be heard.
