environment.\u003cbr/\u003eOrganised by FEBIAC, the Belgian Automobile Federation, the show gathers 250 industry exhibitors under the same roof and expects to attract up to 700,000 visitors over the next two weeks.\u003cbr/\u003eConcerns about global warming has prompted many car owners to consider vehicles which run on cleaner energy, forcing the automobile industry to react to keep up with these demands. \u003cbr/\u003eInside the Brussels motor show, these changes are obvious. \u003cbr/\u003eBig name stands proudly display their latest cars with greener fuel consumption and the resulting lower carbon emissions.\u003cbr/\u003eBut as with every motor show, power, speed and gleaming chrome still rule, with luxury brands such as Ferrari and Porsche, continuing to display their high-octane, petrol -guzzling vehicles.\u003cbr/\u003eFerrari's F430 Spider model emits 355 grams of carbon emission per kilometre, a long way above the EU-recommended 120 grams of carbon per kilometre.\u003cbr/\u003eBut despite this seemingly contradiction in terms, Joost Kaesemans, director of communications for FEBIAC, is quick to point out the changes in the industry and its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever environmental activists such as Aat Peterse find that hard to believe.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says that the car industry's 'green credentials' are all promotional and have no real substance behind them. \u003cbr/\u003ePeterse says that the industry is fighting legislation which would make greener cars standard. \u003cbr/\u003eSofie Van Damme, PR for Saab Belgium was keen to highlight Saab's use of bio-fuel, which she says may help combat CO2 emissions.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe European Union promised on Monday that its new push to promote biofuels will try to prevent harming the environment or adding to greenhouse gas levels as the rush toward the cash crop worries environmentalists.\u003cbr/\u003eEurope and the United States are planning to use more transport fuel made from crops, such as corn, rapeseed or sugar cane, to replace polluting oil, aiming also to cut down on expensive energy imports.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the biofuel boom has alarmed many experts and campaigners, who warn of a host of unintended consequences from a massive shift to biofuel production that could see virgin forests cleared and food prices rise if poor farmers plant fuel crops instead of food.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Brussels Motor Show, whilst not one of the major events in the automobile calendar, is still considered important, mostly due to its
