Various of stupa\u003cbr/\u003eCambodians relived the horror of the Khmer Rouge regime on Friday at an emotional ceremony at the infamous killing fields south of the capital, Phnom Penh, where thousands were murdered under the ultra-communists in the 1970s.\u003cbr/\u003eIn a little over a month the top four surviving leaders of the regime will go on trial charged with war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. \u003cbr/\u003eAbout three-thousand people gathered to mark the so-called \"Day Of Hate\", at an isolated area of fields that was used by the regime's security forces that ruled the country in the 1970s, as a place of execution for its perceived enemies.\u003cbr/\u003eThe attendants watched a re-enactment of the brutality rampant under the regime, as students dressed as Khmer Rouge cadres acted out scenes of violence and death. \u003cbr/\u003eMany in the crowd broke down and wept.  \u003cbr/\u003e\"I can't describe how much it hurt to watch today's ceremony. My parents were killed by the Khmer Rouge,\" Yim Srey said, adding that she is awaiting punishment for the leaders of the regime.  \u003cbr/\u003eThousands were beaten to death in the fields near Phnom Penh, then dumped in mass graves. The graves were later excavated after the regime was overthrown. Hundreds of skulls from the pits have been on display there ever since, in a large stupa, in an act of commemoration.\u003cbr/\u003eAn estimated 1.7 (m) million Cambodians died under the Khmer Rouge, an ultra-communist movement that tried to create a peasant utopia when they took over in 1975 at the end of a bloody civil war.\u003cbr/\u003eThe deaths came from starvation, over-work, illness and execution. They were overthrown in 1979, by invading Vietnamese forces.\u003cbr/\u003eOn June 27th the long-awaited trial will begin of Nuon Chea, the group's chief ideologue; Khieu Samphan, its former head of
