It can just take you to the point that you can transform it into a second opportunity.\"\u003cbr/\u003e18. Wide pan across orchestra\u003cbr/\u003eArgentina's occupation of the Falklands Islands in 1982 lasted just 74 days but, 30 years on, the ensuing conflict continues to play a very real part in the daily life of the Islands.\u003cbr/\u003eMount Harriet, a small mountain range just 10 miles outside the capital Port Stanley, witnessed one of the conflicts fiercest battles.\u003cbr/\u003eToday it is a well-trodden destination for tour guides as they take increasing numbers of visitors on battlefield tours where they can see the very vivid physical remnants of the short but bloody war.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tours of Mount Harriet bear witness to where Argentine ground forces were sometimes left nearly starving as supplies rotted on the docks, or freezing in fighting positions in clothes meant for northern Argentina's subtropics.\u003cbr/\u003eLocals remember the day their local militia mobilised just ahead of the invasion.\u003cbr/\u003eJust 19-years-old at the time Andy Brownlee was one of the volunteer forces youngest members. \u003cbr/\u003eToday he is a captain.\u003cbr/\u003eOriginally from Belfast, Ireland, he moved to the Falkland Islands with his family in 1981.\u003cbr/\u003eToday Andy is a local business owner, owning the only hardware store in Stanley. \u003cbr/\u003eHe has met many times with the numerous Argentine veterans of the war who had made pilgrimage back to the island often \"to put their ghosts to bed.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"Within a very short time you could see these guys and their families, their mothers, the fathers, they'd come to grieve, they'd come to put their ghosts to bed and I could only but respect that, those that had come for the right reasons and generally had their own battles to deal with,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eFor Brownlee, the Argentine soldiers were cruelly used as a smokescreen for a weakening military junta dictatorship at home and were sent into a war that they did volunteer for.\u003cbr/\u003e\"They had suffered a great loss, guys had been sent here not of their own free will. So at the end of the day I certainly respected that and then had no ill feelings towards them,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eWhen a British task force of 28-thousand troops and more than 100 vessels fought against 12-thousand soldiers and 40 ships from Argentina on land and sea they were quickly overpowered and forced into defeat on June 14th.\u003cbr/\u003eFor Argentine war veterans, the war and its aftermath were equally pivotal moments in their lives.\u003cbr/\u003eFrom some perspectives the emotional damage was even more profound as they were drafted by a military focused on eliminating leftist \"subversives\" at home, then sent into a war they were unprepared for. \u003cbr/\u003eDario Volonte, a year younger than Brownlee at the time, was among them.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was sent to serve on the warship General Belgrano, and was one of the only survivors when the ship was sunk by the British.\u003cbr/\u003eUpon his return to his native Buenos Aires after the war, like many others, he had to conceal his military identity at a time when any association with the junta was frowned upon in the Latin American country.\u003cbr/\u003eHe earned his living driving a van and studied music at nights.\u003cbr/\u003eToday he is one of the countries most renowned opera singers.\u003cbr/\u003e\"To have passed through all of these queues of obstacles gives you the felling of more confidence in the meaning of life in general,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eVolonte says while for some the devastation of the experience was insurmountable, for him it was became a barrier that he
