Last year we detected less than one hectare (illegally logged), and today we have not detected illegal logging, so it must be much much less than that (half hectare).\"\u003cbr/\u003eVidal said the battle hasn't been won, since climate change now appears to be affecting the mountain reserve, which lies west of Mexico City.\u003cbr/\u003eThe report released on Wednesday said pests and drought caused a combined reduction of almost 52 acres (21 hectares) of pine and fir forest.\u003cbr/\u003eBark beetles, water shortages and a parasitic plant infestation of mistletoe, a vine that strangles trees, contributed to the loss. \u003cbr/\u003eMillions of Monarch butterflies travel over 4,000 kilometres (around 2486 miles) to Mexico from the United States and Canada every year.\u003cbr/\u003eThe numbers of butterflies spending the winter in Mexico have varied wildly in recent years.
