Dick, I think will live forever because he had such an impact in American music and in teenage culture in this country.\"\u003cbr/\u003eWhen Lew Klein met Dick Clark in 1952, the future entertainment mogul had just graduated from Syracuse University.\u003cbr/\u003eHe came to interview at WFIL radio in Philadelphia, but Klein knew he was destined for the new medium of television.\u003cbr/\u003e\"When Dick took over 'Bandstand' his youth, his wholesomeness, his down-to-earth attitude with the audience I think turned the parents around and helped to open the way for eventually what was the rock and roll era in American music,\" said Klein, who served as the first executive producer of 'Bandstand' when it was taped in Philadelphia and before it became 'American Bandstand' in national syndication. \"He helped to develop and allowed to develop many personalities - countless number of people who appeared on his program and went on to stardom because of the exposure they had on bandstand: Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Bobby Rydell, Johnny Mathison. I could go on and on and on.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut beyond making America's living rooms safe for rock and roll, Clark had an impact on the changing face of America in the 50's and 60's.\u003cbr/\u003e\"For the first time, there were black kids and white kids dancing on the same dance floor,\" said Klein about 'Bandstand.' \"At that time high schools had separate proms: white and black. And so I think what message came across as being the most important one - sure there's the music, the outfits and the dances and all of that - but I think the most profound contribution that bandstand made was -- and this was through Dick's efforts - was to help the integration across the country.\"\u003cbr/\u003eKlein, who recently donated hundreds of his photos and letters from his long broadcasting career to Temple University's research center, served for years on the board of directors for Dick Clark Productions.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Dick's passing, and it's hard to believe even though he was ill, it's just hard to believe that he's gone because to me it represents sort of the end of an era for me and I think for the music world,\" he said. \"Dick I think will live forever because he had such an impact in American music and in teenage culture in this country.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDick Clark died Wednesday of a heart attack at the age of
