This effect that he is not going to school, he's being paraded around the front of the house on the shoulders of Lazaro Gonzalez and other family members and the thing though that capped it off was the release of the video tape which was to me an obviously contrived, highly manipulated almost hostage like video of a child who is clearly responding to coaching in a film made in the middle of the night and to me that was the last straw and that prompted me to write to the Attorney General and the Commissioner and suggest to them that immediate action should be taken right now to remove the child from that environment, return him to his father who is the biological father and appropriate parent for him and to try to bring the two family parts together to come up with a plan that will be in the best interests of the child and that was the whole sum and substance of it.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Doctor Irwin Redlener\u003cbr/\u003eRedlener, an unpaid adviser to Meissner, selected the three mental health experts who met briefly with Lazaro Gonzalez and the boy's father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez.\u003cbr/\u003eQuestions about the boy's mental health intensified as all sides waited for a federal appeals court in Atlanta to decide whether the government should be kept from letting the boy leave the country.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I wasn't diagnosing the child. I was making an observation about his environment and I think it was totally appropriate and its what we do every day when we are dealing with the assessment of possible abusive and coercive situations for children. They should not be made by people who are thousands of miles away or hundreds of miles away who have never had even a telephone contact with the any of the parties involved - whether it be the child, the family or anyone else here.\" \u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Dr Jose Carro, President, Cuban Paediatric Society in Exile\u003cbr/\u003eThe latest accusations followed a weekend of bitter allegations. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Miami relatives filed an affidavit alleging the father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, abused his wife and son.\u003cbr/\u003eJuan Miguel Gonzalez, in turn, said that his relatives were abusing the boy and turning him against his father.\u003cbr/\u003eThe government wants the court to lift a temporary order barring Elian's removal from the U-S, and to order the Miami family to release him to his father.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Miami relatives have been fighting for custody ever since Elian was found clinging to an inner tube off the Florida Coast.\u003cbr/\u003eHis mother and 10 others drowned in an attempt to flee Cuba.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Miami relatives have defied government efforts to unite the boy with his father, who flew to Washington on April 6 hoping to gain custody.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile Miami Mayor Joe Carollo has flown to Washington to defend, he says, the reputation of the Cuban-Americans in Little Havana.\u003cbr/\u003eCarollo says the only violence by Cubans was witnessed outside the Cuban Interest Section building on Friday. \u003cbr/\u003eThat's when a group of peaceful demonstrators say they were attacked and beaten by what Carollo calls \"thugs masquerading as diplomats.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Well the purpose of my visit in Washington today mainly has been to be here with these young professionals, college students and to come and defend the honour of my city, of my people who have been so unjustly attacked with what I truly feel has been a double standard by some.
