Various, Tymoshenko meets supporters\u003cbr/\u003eUkrainians vote this weekend in the fourth national elections in three years, attempting to break a political deadlock that puts seekers of cautious change against bold reformers, Russian against Ukrainian speakers and the guardians of Slavic heritage against champions of European integration.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cast of characters vying for control is the same as during the 2004 Orange Revolution. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Western-leaning President Viktor Yushchenko; his archrival, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych; and the glamorous opposition crusader Yulia Tymoshenko.\u003cbr/\u003eGone, however, is the hope that swept the nation three years ago when thousands of protesters gathered in the bitter cold of Kiev's main square and stood up for democracy and reform.\u003cbr/\u003eIn its place is a widespread sense of the futility of the political process.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think that as a woman she (Tymoshenko) knows best the fate of the common people and I think that if she comes to power then a lot of things will change for the better,\" one local resident, Evgeniya Ustinova, told AP Television in Lutsk.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother woman said she was voting for Yanukovych.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I am voting for Yanukovych's party, the party of stability and peace. I am judging by their business qualities and not because someone promises something and then says 'oh, I'm sorry, I thought I could do it but didn't',\" said Emma Pavlenko. \u003cbr/\u003ePolls now suggest a three-way split between the country's main parties, leading to the prospect of protracted coalition talks. \u003cbr/\u003eAfter the vote, all three political leaders are calling for changes in the constitution to break the political paralysis.\u003cbr/\u003eUkraine's constitution, hastily revised during the Orange Revolution, divides executive powers between the president and prime minister, leaving it unclear who has the power to do what.\u003cbr/\u003eLast year, Yanukovych's allies blocked Yushchenko's choice for foreign minister from attending Cabinet sessions for several weeks, provoking his resignation. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the spring, Yushchenko fired his prosecutor general, a Yanukovych ally. \u003cbr/\u003eBut police loyal to the prime minister prevented the prosecutor's removal.\u003cbr/\u003eYushchenko and Tymoshenko want Ukrainians to decide in a referendum who should hold more power, the president or the premier. \u003cbr/\u003eYanukovych, meanwhile, wants to change the constitution to make Russian the second official language and block any NATO bid.\u003cbr/\u003eBut observers predict that Ukraine's arguementive politicians will find it any easier to rewrite the constitution than to govern together.\u003cbr/\u003eUkraine's voters will pick from 20 parties, but no more than six are expected to pass the 3 percent threshold needed to win seats in the 450-member assembly.\u003cbr/\u003eOf those six, just the parties led by Yushchenko, Yanukovych and Tymoshenko are expected to gain enough seats to form the base for a potential governing coalition.\u003cbr/\u003eYushchenko's ambition to bring Ukraine closer to the European Union and implement pro-market reforms suffered a major blow in 2006, when his plummeting popularity opened the way for the once discredited Yanukovych to take over as prime minister.\u003cbr/\u003eSince then, neither has been able to impose his vision for Ukraine, with Yushchenko putting his dreams of quickly joining the EU on hold and Yanukovych moderating his pro-Russian stance.\u003cbr/\u003eTymoshenko could hold the key to the hopes of Western-looking, self-styled reformers. \u003cbr/\u003eShe aims to unite with Yushchenko's forces in Parliament and return as prime minister, a post she held briefly until Yushchenko dismissed her government in September 2005.\u003cbr/\u003eSmaller parties such as the communists and the socialists are likely to drive hard bargains for their support, if they get in.\u003cbr/\u003ePolitical analyst Serhiy Taran told AP Television that democracy in the Ukraine has many problems.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The West believes that Ukraine is a democracy. elections as Ukraine's most democratic ever, but some fear this vote will not be so free and fair. \u003cbr/\u003eIt is being run by the government of Yanukovych, whose 2004 presidential election victory was declared fraudulent by a court.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Orange Revolution that swept Yushchenko to power despite the Kremlin's open backing of Yanukovych sent shock waves through Russia and the
