He says that will hurt the people the president intends to help.\u003cbr/\u003eWashington - January 28, 2014\u003cbr/\u003e1. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. John Boehner, Speaker of the House:\u003cbr/\u003e\"We're looking forward to hearing from the President and from our colleague Cathy McMorris Rodgers. Cathy will deliver a personal and conservative message about our desire to empower the American people.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"I suspect the President has the authority to raise the minimum wage for those dealing with federal contracts. But let's understand something, this affects not one current contract. It only affects future contracts with the federal government. So, I think the question is, how many people, Mr. President, will this executive action actually help? I suspect the answer is somewhere close to zero.\" \u003cbr/\u003e\"When you look at African-Americans and Hispanics, there the people who never have a chance to get on the economic ladder. It's bad policy. And it will hurt the very people the President purports to want to help.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"I don't think Republicans want to default on our debt. Secondly, the President has made clear he doesn't want to negotiate. Thirdly, it's become obvious to me after having tried to work with the President for the last three years, that he will not deal with our long term spending problems unless Republicans agree to raise taxes. And we are not going to raise taxes. The options available continue to be narrower.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"But we are going to watch very closely , because there's a Constitution that we all take an oath to, including him.
