More of dance and act performance\u003cbr/\u003eBelgian choreographer JAN FABRE's modern dance troupe have been in Israel this week, as part of a world tour of his latest work 'As long as a warrior needs a warrior's soul.' \u003cbr/\u003e16 dancers, actors and musicians perform the energetic and eclectic work, which is designed to shock.  It worked - the week-long show at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Theatre which ended on Saturday has received a mixed reception.\u003cbr/\u003eSome members of the audience walked out in disgust after the first few minutes - but those that stayed to the end gave the troupe a standing ovation. \u003cbr/\u003eFull-frontal nudity and dancers smeared in a variety of foodstuffs - including chocolate spread, flour, eggs and ketchup - were just some of the ingredients that proved too strong for some members of the audience to swallow. \u003cbr/\u003eDolls are also used to present a warrior taking on different shapes, as men and women in various situations and of different ages. \u003cbr/\u003eThe central theme is body in revolt and characters in the work include a racist, an AIDS victim, a prostitute and a 40-year-old mother seperated from her husband. \u003cbr/\u003eThe image of doll versus the human body is an underlying feature of the performance.  Characters want to become dolls themselves, to free themselves of the burdens of the body and its functions.  They project their wishes and desires onto the doll. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the same time, there is resistance to the doll, as dancers use their bodies to express individuality, opposing dehumanisation. \u003cbr/\u003eThe story is based on a Dario Fo text, which includes selections from the memoirs of Ulrike Meinhof of the Red Army faction's Beider-Meinhof Gang. The work's soundtrack jumps from hard rock to Billie Holiday numbers. \u003cbr/\u003eFabre attempts to present a world of complete chaos where everyone tries to rule.
