I also like the way he incorporated 5/4 in which sort of makes the rhythm more interesting.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Science Museum in London is making a noise about its virtual orchestra interactive exhibition.\u003cbr/\u003eMembers of the public can play the part of conductor, or even join the orchestra for a rendition of Gustav Holst's The Planets.\u003cbr/\u003eEver wondered what it would feel like to conduct a full 105 piece orchestra? The 'Universe of Sound' exhibition at the Science Museum in London is probably the closest most people will ever get to experiencing it.\u003cbr/\u003eOpening to the public today (May 23) to the new digital installation takes Gustav Holst's popular Planets suite and transforms it into a multimedia performance.\u003cbr/\u003eDavid Whelton, managing director of the Science Museum explains: \"This is an extraordinary installation based on one of the great masterpieces of 20th Century British music, Gustav Holst's The Planets. Our principal conductor and artistic advisor has got a passion about bringing this great music to the widest possible audiences.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Philharmonia Orchestra is broadcast in real time on three screens in high-definition in front of the virtual conductor. \u003cbr/\u003e\"At the end of the whole installation you become part of the entirety, you can conduct on route and you become part of the Philharmonia,\" says Whelton.\u003cbr/\u003eWith Kinect for Xbox 360 motion-tracking technology and touchscreens, the visitor steps inside the conductor's shoes and takes the reins.\u003cbr/\u003eThe technology tracks the users' hands across the screens, move them up and the volume in specific sections increases, move them down to dull the sound.\u003cbr/\u003eThe performance is even recorded and can be listened to again online.\u003cbr/\u003eThe tracks will be available at www.universeofsound.co.uk and can be shared with friends on social networks - like Facebook or Twitter.\u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition is broken into separate rooms - just as an orchestra is broken down into parts.\u003cbr/\u003eWhelton explains how the experience for the visitor works.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says: \"When you arrive here you will be taken into a series of rooms, each room will bring you inside the orchestra in a particular section. The visitor's image is projected onto the screen alongside the players.\u003cbr/\u003eKevin Hathway is principal percussionist of the Philharmonia and is teaching a group of primary school children from south London the basics of percussion.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says: \"Traditionally teaching classic music and getting a message across to young children - or grown ups for that matter - very difficult proposition - you can give them a flavour. Salonen.\u003cbr/\u003eMusicians from the orchestra will be available throughout its run, answering questions and helping the public understand what life is like in the Philharmonia.\u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition is free and the Science Museum is hoping to help merge music and science and engage new audiences with classical music.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Universe of Sound runs from May 23 - July 8, 2012
