(Feb. 2)    \u003cbr/\u003e(NATS)   EVERYDAY AT 5:30 MUSLIM MEN PRAY AT THIS BROOKLYN MOSQUE....WITH PRAYER BEADS IN HAND, THEY BOW DOWN AND TOUCH THEIR HEADS TO CLAY DISKS.....A SHIA TRADITION  (NATS)  THE MOSQUE IS AMONGST A DOZEN OTHERS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN UNDER POLICE SURVEILLANCE SOLELY BECAUSE IT'S SHIITE....IN A 2006 DOCUMENT OBTAINED BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS THE NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDED INCREASED SURVEILLANCE OF THOUSANDS MUSLIMS AND THEIR MOSQUES  (MATT APUZZO/AP REPORTER)  \"this document is significant because it shows that if you share the same religion as s terrorist you will be under scrutiny of the NYPD\"   THE REPORT FOCUSES IN ON SHIITE MUSLIMS....IT STEMS FROM CONCERNS OVER US TENSIONS WITH IRAN, A PREDOMINANTLY SHIITE COUNTRY....FORMER NYPD OFFICIALS, WHO PREFERED TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS, CONFIRMED PAST EFFORTS TO KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON SHIITE MUSLIMS IN NEW YORK, BUT IT'S NOT CLEAR WHETHER ANY OF THE MOSQUES WERE INFILTRATED....COUNTERTERRORISM EXPERT ROBERT STRANG SAYS INTELLIGENCE GATHERED FROM SURVEILLANCE IS IMPORTANT, BUT EQUALLY IMPORTANT IS A STRONG RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY  (ROBERT STRANG/COUNTERTERRRORISM EXPERT) \"Let's hope those relationships grow stronger and not weaker. The mayor knows me very well. ICE knows me very well. FBI knows me. I think the White House even knows me.
