Wide of photographers taking pictures of dogs\u003cbr/\u003eSome unusual crime fighters visited Mexico City on Wednesday to help in the battle against pirated DVDs and CDs. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Lucky\" and \"Flo,\" two black Labradors, are the first two dogs in the world to have been especially trained to detect illegal discs.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dogs were trained in Ireland with the support of the Motion Picture Association (MPA). \u003cbr/\u003eThe pair have detected 1.88 (m) million DVDs and CDs around the world to date. They have travelled to the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, the Czech Republic and the Philippines among other nations to give demonstrations to local law enforcement officers.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dogs are trained to detect the scent of polycarbonate in the discs and do not differentiate between original and pirated discs. But when brought to a customs area, for example, the dogs can detect discs hidden in cargo that is declared to have something else inside, such as watches or clothes.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe problem of piracy is particularly acute in Mexico. \u003cbr/\u003e\"In 2005, the MPA's members lost 483 (m) million US dollars to piracy right here in Mexico,\" said John Malcolm, Director of Worldwide Anti-Piracy Operations for the MPA. \u003cbr/\u003eThe dogs, both three-year-old females, were trained for six months. According to their trainer, Mick Buchanan, they have olfactory senses that are forty times stronger than that of a human being. \u003cbr/\u003eMalcolm said that now that they know how to train them, new DVD-sniffing dogs could be trained in around three months for a cost of approximately 10,000 - 15,000 US dollars.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe goal of their visit to Mexico, which lasts until Saturday, is to help demonstrate the level of the problem of piracy in the country. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Malcolm, the dogs will help law enforcement officials in Mexico conduct several operations. \u003cbr/\u003eHe said that on their first day of work in Malaysia, \"Lucky\" and \"Flo\" found a hidden warehouse containing 1 (m) million pirated discs. \u003cbr/\u003e\"These dogs have been so successful that the organised syndicates in two different countries have put out a contract to have the dogs killed,\" said Malcolm. \u003cbr/\u003eThese countries are Malaysia and the Czech Republic.\u003cbr/\u003eOther efforts by pirates to confuse the dogs, he said, such as spreading charcoal around the rooms where the illegal discs were being kept, were unsuccessful.\u003cbr/\u003eThe
