Wide of maps\u003cbr/\u003eIndigenous leaders and environmental activists denounced government plans on Friday to auction 18 petroleum plots that are located in protected areas of the Peruvian jungle. \u003cbr/\u003eThey say further oil development will harm the environment and disturb the indigenous culture. \u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at a news conference in Lima, Alberto Pizango, the President of the Inter-ethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle said he wanted the land in question \"to be respected and for the wildlife and biodiversity to be saved\".\u003cbr/\u003ePizango said local people living in the area insisted there is no more oil there.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said they were demanding \"there be no more investment in oil, because it is killing them\". \u003cbr/\u003e\"It brings us death. It doesn't bring development,\" Pizango told reporters.\u003cbr/\u003eOf the 18 plots, 11 are located in the Amazon jungle. \u003cbr/\u003eThey cover some 22 (m) million hectares (54.3 (m) million acres) of untouched forest.\u003cbr/\u003eAP Television filmed in an area of jungle in the state of Loreto where pollution was evident.\u003cbr/\u003eCarlos Chirinos, the representative of the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law, told reporters on Friday that there were many issues linked to the development of oil production in the affected areas.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There are problems of migration, there are problems of illness,  there are problems of illegal drilling,  these directly affect the community.
