I'm the real Forest Gump.\u003cbr/\u003eThey used my film footage when the President awarded me the Medal of Honor.  They simply put Tom's face over my face.  They based Forest Gump's citation on my actual citation.  I swam across the river and brought back three of my brothers.  Now the only thing that is based on fact in the movie is the Medal of Honor sequence.  The rest of it touches my life but the only thing based on fact is the Medal of Honor sequence.\u003cbr/\u003eI was taken aback by the fact that I'm not the lightest brightest bulb in the closet.  But i\"m not the dimmest either and they just kind of made me a little slower than what I would have made me.  But after I started talking to the school children, I do a great deal of talking to schools all across the nation and I would ask them, Have you seen the movie Forest Gump?  And all of them said Oh yeah Oh yeah.  Well what was the lesson?  What was the most important lesson that you learned out of watching the movie Forest Gump and they would say, You don't lose until you quit trying.  That's the one thing I asked when the Pentagon called and told me that they were going to use my film footage in a movie.  I said, do you think they could in the movie somewhere the lesson that I learned in Vietnam the fact that you don't lose until you quit trying.\u003cbr/\u003eI don't recall in my  63 years of ever being more frightened then when I stood in front of President Johnson.  In the footage you see I don't remember ever being more frightened because with all my training, military, I'd never been trained on how to meet the president.  My legs where shaking so bad I thought I was going to fall down.  In fact, afterwards my momma said, son I though you were going to fall down your legs were shaking so bad.  I said, yes ma'am.  I thought i was too.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is a privilege for me to where this because you see I'm no hero.  I'm just a soldier.  I simply did my job.  But those men that I served with, the men that I was with that night, they are the heros.  They should have the medal of Honor.  But for some reason they chose, my brothers gave it to me.
